They Knew How to Pray: 15 Secrets from the Prayer Lives of Bible Heroes
Published in Paperback by Kregel Publications (May, 2003)
Author: Tom Carter
Average review score:

Good for my Bible study group
I taught "They Knew How to Pray" to my women's Bible study group at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. The women loved it and found in each chapter great comfort and inspiration to pray. I especially liked the final chapter, "Your Prayer Life," because it addressed my needs the best. But I also loved the chapter on the prayer life of Samuel, which is called, "Practice a Ministry of Prayer." I highly recommend this book to a small or large group Bible study, or even to someone who wants to use it for personal daily devotion.

A real blessing
This book reminded me of "The Prayer of Jabez," because it takes 15 people from the Bible (Abraham, joshua, Hannah, David, Jesus, Paul, etc.) and explains the secrets of their prayer lives. These secrets are easy to practice in my prayer life. I wish I could have read this book a long time ago. I think the best chapter was about King Jehoshaphat ("Look to the Lord When You Don't Know What to Do"), because it addressed the situations in life when it's hard to figure out God's will and told me how to pray about them. I teach a Bible study group, and I'm going to ask the group members to go through this book with me. I think the discussion questions at the end of each chapter will make good conversation in our Bible study group. I also recommend this book to adult Sunday School teachers.

Transmission Electron Microscopy : A Textbook for Materials Science (4 volumes)
Published in Paperback by Plenum Pub Corp (September, 1996)
Authors: David B. Williams and C. Barry Carter
Average review score:

Excellent introduction to TEM
In the 70's and 80's the book by Hirsch et al. was the TEM reference tome, and Eddington's book the applications manual.

Time has marched on, and this book is the new replacement for both!

Carter and Williams wrote a very easy to read, yet well detailed, text and reference for TEM. They cover quite literally everything, in just the right level of detail for 1st or 2nd year grad students.

This book is the best way to get a quick grasp of TEM.

An amazing textbook!
I find this book probably the best textbook in materials science I ever read. Not only the authors are experts in the field of microscopy, but they also succeeded in extremely difficult task to present the complicated science of electron microscopy in a simple (but not oversimplified!) language. The book covers all major aspects of transmission electron microscopy, and contains excellent illustrations. This book is certainly a priceless asset for students. I talked to some people at the National Center for Electron Microscopy, and they also recommend it as one of the best books at the beginning and intermediate level. If you are looking for a book to learn TEM, get this one, you will never regret!

The white priory murders
Published in Unknown Binding by ()
Author: Carter Dickson
Average review score:

the white priory murders
The author is at the top of his form in this hilarious and puzzling tale involving Sir Henrey Merrivale. Impossible situations, great characters, fast pace. I loved it!

an excellent detective novel
Although published in Carr's (a.k.a. Carter Dickson) early years, this novel is an excellent example of Carr's "impossible" murders and is better written than many of his later ones. In this novel, a woman's dead body was found in a pavilion surrounded by unmarked snow save for the footprints of the one who discovered the body. Despite the fact that the murder was committed after the snow stopped, outgoing footprints were not found, nor was murderer found inside. Carr ingeniously provided 3 explanations for this situation, among which Sir H.M.'s was naturally chosen as final.

While it is not difficult to guess H.M.'s explanation due to its straightforwardness, not until the very end of this novel does one have enough evidence to decide the murderer. Readers are thus ensured not to lose their patience or interests in this well paced detective novel.

However, in this novel of a bloody murder, nowhere does it mention how much blood was found in the supposed murder scene, which is an extremely important matter as readers will later find. I consider it a weakness but easily fixable, so I won't let it mar the book's rating.

Why Should I Be Afraid?: From Psalm 27 (Golden Psalm Books)
Published in Hardcover by Golden Books Pub Co Inc (August, 1999)
Authors: Joel Anderson and Kristi Carter
Average review score:

This book warmly reminds you of God's protective hand.
My boys and I have read the book about six times since last night. One of them went to bed with it. The illustrations depict the content of the text with such warmth. The message of God's caring hand comes across so well with the words being taken directly from a paraphrased Bible. What could be more comforting than this? Wonderful! I will be buying more of these books.

Incredible way to share God with your children!!
I love this book!! The illustrations are fantastic and the story (Psalms 27)is beautifully written in language that my child understands. I hope Joel Anderson writes more books!

Written in the Bricks: A Visual and Historical Tour of Fifteen Mississippi Hometowns
Published in Hardcover by Quail Ridge Pr (November, 1999)
Authors: Mary Carol Miller and Mary Rose Carter
Average review score:

Stunning photography and fascinating text
Written in the bricks is more that just a beautiful coffee-table book. The stories contained in the accompanying text really highlight the uniqueness of Mississippi and its people. Rather than simply describing the photographs, the text invites the reader to see beyond the walls to the people who inspired the architecture and worked on the buildings. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the deep south, its architecture, and its heritage. I cannot recommend this book more highly.

Gorgeous book
The author and photographer have done a great job of making Mississippi's history come alive. The text tells a story rather than just repeating what is written in history books, and the photographs show both the beauty and sometimes starkness of the historical sites. A good choice for history buffs and for anyone who enjoys architectural history.

If you are searching for answers and are tired of opinions, you need this book , along with the King James version of the Bible.

This is more than just a calendar - it's an information source, a guide and a collectable item. A very beautiful gift that I may buy more of for friends and familly in the near future.

Quotes to memorize for everyday use
The many quotes that were arranged and can be found in this book are excellent for use in your daily walk and for much instruction in the Lord. I found these to be quite useful in understanding certain topics found in the Bible, and sometimes found Spurgeon's quotes to be quite humorous. If there is any quotation book to get, this is a must have!

Cute Book
A nice biography on Aaron Carter that tells you his life story. Easy to read, had pictures, and was truthful. It was pretty good. I would recommend it to a new Aaron Carter fan or someone who dosn't know much about him. If you're a big Aaron Carter fan, read the book his mom wrote
